During his visit to Haiti, Colombian Chancellor Álvaro Leyva toured the national penitentiary to meet with the Colombian mercenaries accused in the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse. He confirmed this development in an interview with Le Nouvelliste on Friday, December 15, during the inauguration of the Colombian consulate in Port-au-Prince. The Minister of Foreign Relations, however, emphasized the importance of Haitian justice targeting the real culprits. "There is an element of responsibility, investigation, human rights. Innocents should not pay for the guilty. If they are innocent, they should not pay for the guilty," insisted the chancellor.

In this regard, Mr. Leyva indicated that his country is working closely with Haitian authorities. "We are collaborating with intelligence agencies in Haiti. We need to know the truth. It is from the truth that we will prevent innocents from paying for the guilty. Justice must act against the guilty," he asserted.
