When Prime Minister Ariel Henry took office on July 20, 2021, he promised to restore order and organize elections. More than two years later, elections have not taken place, and the country's security situation remains unchanged. "The only way to break out of this framework is to organize elections," suggested former interim President Jocelerme Privert, who participated in the "Panel Magik" show on Friday, January 5. "The only sustainable way out of this crisis is to restore democratic institutions. This restoration involves organizing elections," he asserted, noting that all previous interim presidents before Prime Minister Ariel Henry organized elections within two years, from Judge Ertha Pascale Trouillot to his own rule in February 2016.
The former head of state urges the current head of government to take appropriate measures to organize elections. "Normally, between the formation of the Electoral Council and the likely date of elections, 12 to 18 months will elapse," estimated Jocelerme Privert. "As long as the Provisional Electoral Council is not formed, we cannot claim to take the electoral path. As long as there is no Electoral Council, no one can say when we will see the light at the end of the tunnel. That's why I insist on the formation of this structure, the first significant step towards the end of this transition. All transitions in the country have never exceeded two years. As I said the day before yesterday, in July next year, the current government will have been in power for 36 months. I think that's enough for a transition! The mechanisms leading us to the end of this transition should be put in place," he demanded, admitting to having spoken to the head of government to ask him to organize elections as soon as possible.
