The Directorate of Immigration and Emigration faced unprecedented demand throughout 2023, regarded by many as the year of exodus. In the context of waves of departures, particularly to the United States, the demand for the coveted document, the passport, doubled, according to data collected by Le Nouvelliste.
Immigration received a staggering 90,000 requests per month, compared to around 45,000 in previous years.
