Three months after its ratification by the UN Security Council, the Multinational Mission for Security Support (MMSS) has not yet been deployed. Ambassador Martin Kimani, the Permanent Representative of Kenya to the UN, stated during an informational meeting of the UN Security Council on Haiti that the Supreme Court will decide on the constitutionality of deploying just over 1,000 police officers on Friday, January 26, 2024. Ambassador Kimani highlighted that his government has made "significant progress in the preparatory phase" of the mission. Topics such as the use of force, training, and the establishment of a trust fund have been discussed in past meetings, in December 2023 and upcoming ones in mid-February, said the Kenyan diplomat. He reiterated the importance of several measures, ranging from financial support to strengthening the Haitian government's capacities in various areas, including combating arms and ammunition trafficking.
