The textile sector has experienced a loss of over 25,000 jobs in less than two years, as revealed by the former president of the Association of Industries in Haiti. During the Panel Magik program on Monday, January 29, Georges Sassine emphasized the need to take measures to prevent further deterioration of this sector. He insisted on the importance of implementing measures to facilitate the movement of goods and people.

"At the end of the year 2022, we had 62,000 workers in Port-au-Prince, Caracol, Codevi, and now we have dropped to less than 36,000," reported Georges Sassine, expressing surprise at the state of decay of the Codevi industrial park. "Codevi is facing many problems; they have already lost three out of the eleven existing factories." The issue is structural, according to Sassine, who cited the example of the Caracol industrial park, which ceased operations for three weeks last year due to fuel shortages. "They lost contracts because of this situation. Caracol houses three companies: one Korean, one Taiwanese, and one Sri Lankan. The Korean company closed its doors, the other two are reduced to 80%. They are monitoring the situation. We are doing everything in our power to dissuade them from leaving, but it is very difficult to convince a company to continue investing in a challenging environment," he argued, noting that companies turn to other destinations when Haitian factories cannot fulfill orders.
