While Kenyan leaders are actively working on deploying police officers as part of the Multinational Mission to Support Security (MMAS), concerns linger over funding. The Biden administration plans to cover a significant portion of the costs. However, according to an article published by the Miami Herald, the White House faces skepticism from Republican leaders in Congress. This further complicates a mission that has struggled to take shape for over a year, as gang-related violence intensifies in Haiti.

The United States has pledged up to $200 million to fund the Multinational Mission to Support Security led by Kenya, with contributions from Jamaica, the Bahamas, Chile, Grenada, Paraguay, Burundi, Chad, Nigeria, and Mauritius. Of this amount, the Biden administration initially requested $50 million from Congress. Congress partially released $10 million, and then the administration requested $17 million to start the process, according to sources close to the matter.
