Haiti crossed the threshold of February 7, 2024, not without difficulty. While Prime Minister Ariel Henry managed to retain his position, the crisis remained unabated. Neither Ariel Henry nor his opponents emerged strengthened from the showdown surrounding February 7th. The country also gained nothing from this battle, which illustrates the inability of Haitian political actors to produce compromise. The loss of life and the destruction of public and private property could have been avoided. All the energy expended to disrupt the functioning of schools and public and private enterprises could be used for other purposes if and only if the Haitian political class had learned from past mistakes.

February 7, 2024, which was supposed to mark Haiti's return to democracy, did not fulfill its promises. Prime Minister Ariel Henry and his allies had not found a formula throughout the year 2023 to convince their political adversaries to join their election project. The head of government also failed to fulfill his promise to restore security throughout the country. However, he did find a way to continue enjoying the confidence of the international community. While the international community, through the United States, has unequivocally renewed its support for Ariel Henry, it is slow to provide him with the means to alleviate the suffering of a population at the end of its rope.
