Yuji Kubo, the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Japan to Haiti, visited the Le Nouvelliste newspaper on Monday, January 29, 2024. During an interview granted to the newspaper, he was questioned about the definition of the year of Japan-Caricom friendship and what it implies for Haiti.

According to the Japanese diplomat, 2024 marks a dual anniversary in the relations between Japan and the Caribbean States. "This year marks the 30th anniversary of the first Japan-Caricom consultation. This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Caribbean States such as Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago. The year of Japan-Caricom friendship will serve to celebrate these events," explained Yuji Kubo.
