The main road leading to the southern coast, Torbeck, Chantal, and Arniquet, from the city of Les Cayes, is in a deplorable state. Since December 2022, the Departmental Directorate of Public Works has decided to remove what was left of the asphalt layer between Marchaterre and Torbeck. As a result, residents and users must contend with clouds of dust that arise with the passage of each vehicle. Cases of fever and flu are on the rise. Breakdowns, especially at the bumper level, are accumulating.

Another consequence of this situation is the increased duration of journeys. For instance, the journey from Les Cayes to Arniquet for private vehicles now takes over an hour, compared to around 20 minutes previously. For public transportation, passengers must wait up to 2 hours or more to reach Arniquet or Chantal.
