The port of Port-au-Prince is now under the control of Haitian security forces. The bandits who were there have been repelled. This was indicated to Le Nouvelliste on Monday by Jocelin Villier, the general director of the APN. "The port is open. There is no more looting at CPS, which is now authorized to carry out other port activities, except for the delivery of goods. This will be done after planning with the PNH and customs," explained Mr. Villier to Le Nouvelliste. Jocelin Villier indicates that the APN is working with the police to clear a secure corridor for the transportation of goods. Another source contacted by Le Nouvelliste stated that this secure corridor was the main challenge. "We are starting to see shortages of several products. Secure corridors need to be cleared for the delivery of goods," argued this contact, close to the private sector. On March 7, CPS issued a statement announcing the suspension of its operations at the port after armed bandits infiltrated it. "The Management of Caribbean Port Services S.A. informs the Public in general and its clientele in particular that during the recent disturbances in public order, it has been the victim, since March 1st and again last night, of malicious acts of sabotage and vandalism. Caribbean Port Services S.A. unable to carry out its operations, is obliged to suspend all services offered to its clientele," the statement read. Contacted by Le Nouvelliste, the director of the APN nevertheless assured that despite everything, security forces, the PNH, and the FADH had managed to contain the threats to the port. "We still have control of the public docks, another terminal, a rice packaging company, and our administrative building," he assured.
