On Monday, March 11, 2024, the Haitian National Police held the graduation ceremony for officers from the 33rd promotion. According to a source contacted by Le Nouvelliste, 674 men and 112 women are part of the new cohort, totaling 786 officers. The event, held discreetly, took place at the Police Academy premises. Videos shared on social media on Monday afternoon showed young officers taking an oath to protect and serve in an almost empty room. This stripped-down ceremony contrasts with tradition. Indeed, police graduation ceremonies are usually lively affairs, held in the academy's courtyard with parades, speeches, and more. It is worth noting that the Police Academy has been regularly targeted by the "kraze baryè" gang led by Vitelhomme Innocent, who aims to take control of the premises. Le Nouvelliste learned that Police Chief Frantz Elbé spoke during the ceremony. However, images shared on social media did not show any government officials present. The PNH has yet to issue a statement on the matter.
