Port-au-Prince woke up to a barrage of gunfire on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Since dawn, bursts of automatic weapons fire have echoed through downtown, Clercine, and Tabarre. Le Nouvelliste learned from a local resident that armed bandits were attacking the base of the Departmental Operations and Intervention Brigade (BOID) located in Fort National.
Contacted by Le Nouvelliste, Lionel Lazarre, coordinator of SYNAPOHA, mentioned gunfire in the vicinity of the BOID headquarters without confirming if the headquarters were targeted. Lazarre stated that armed bandits had fired this morning at the Tabarre police station. "They were repelled by the police," he said.
