The downtown area of Port-au-Prince continues to suffer from the actions of criminal groups. After setting fire to a large part of Rue de la Réunion, the bandits have now targeted buildings on Rue Monseigneur Guilloux. Pharmacies, clinics, shops, and private residences were the targets of the bandits on the evening of March 25, 2024.
The buildings were ransacked, looted, and then set on fire. Contacted by Le Nouvelliste, Pierre Hugues Saint Jean, the president of the Association of Pharmacists of Haiti (APH), confirmed that several pharmacies in the downtown area were attacked. "5 pharmacies with operating permits issued by the MSPP have been set on fire. However, there are several others that are not duly authorized to operate, which have also suffered the same fate. We have no contact with the unauthorized pharmacies. We cannot count them," Mr. Saint Jean pointed out.
