The metropolitan region experienced a resurgence of tension on April 1, 2024. After a relatively calm morning, heavy gunfire broke out in various areas downtown, in Delmas, on the road to the airport, and in Pétion-Ville in the early afternoon.

The Nouvelliste learned from witnesses that members of the National Police and the Haitian Armed Forces clashed with gang members at Champ de Mars. The exchanges took place near the National Palace, which has been one of the gang's targets for several weeks. A police armored vehicle was set on fire by criminals on Monseigneur Guilloux Street. According to a police officer's testimony, he and his fellow officers had to abandon the vehicle because it wouldn't start anymore. At least four officers who were in the vehicle were injured. The clashes near the National Palace continued into the evening.
