Total chaos has engulfed the metropolitan area since February 29, 2024. Under a new alliance called "Living Together," gangs are wreaking havoc on the civilian population. They have attacked neighborhoods, leaving corpses in their wake, setting fire to police stations, schools, hospitals, pharmacies, neighborhood warehouses, faculties, private vehicles, houses, commercial banks, money transfer houses, and factories.

Among their criminal acts is the escape of over five thousand prisoners after the looting of the Port-au-Prince civil prison and that of Croix-des-Bouquets. Amidst this surge of violence and the chronic and well-known inability of the PNH to control these criminal gangs, Prime Minister Ariel Henry, criticized and devoid of clear political and security accomplishments, was pushed aside by the Americans and Caricom.
