The Champ de Mars has become, for several weeks now, the scene of armed clashes between law enforcement and armed gangs. This area, which hosts important buildings such as the National Palace, the Western Departmental Directorate of the PNH, the headquarters of the Armed Forces of Haiti, the Court of Cassation, and several ministries, is coveted by criminal groups who seek to eradicate the last vestiges of state authority.

This Monday, as has become a routine for several weeks, clashes erupted between law enforcement and the gangs. By late morning, police officers, using a loudspeaker, ordered pedestrians to leave. Intense gunfire was heard in the area and lasted almost the entire day. Several agents of the Temporary Anti-Gang Unit (UTAG) were observed repelling the attacks of criminals, notably on Lamarre Street.
