Jacqueline Charles, a Haitian-American journalist covering the English-speaking Caribbean and Haiti, finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and Emmy Award winner, received the "Single Story" award for her article "Haiti Gangs Take Aim at Disabled Children: 'Put Those Kids Out of Their Misery or We Will'" at the 49th NABJ Gala in Chicago on August 3, 2024.
"I received an award from the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) for my series on the plight of a group of disabled and orphaned children in Haiti caught in the country's gang wars, and the campaign to temporarily relocate them to Jamaica. The children were cared for by Haiti Children, and thanks to the persistent coverage by the Miami Herald, they were eventually transported to Jamaica earlier this year," Jacqueline Charles told Le Nouvelliste.
