On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, several specialized units of the Haitian National Police (PNH), soldiers from the Haitian Armed Forces (FADH), and a Kenyan contingent conducted an operation in downtown Port-au-Prince and the lower Delmas area. Gunfire was reported, particularly in the Bel-Air and Delmas 2 neighborhoods. Witnesses observed more than a dozen armored vehicles in these areas. According to a source contacted by Le Nouvelliste, the operation resulted in the deaths of several gang members. Additionally, three police officers were injured and are receiving treatment at a hospital in the capital.

Prime Minister Dr. Garry Conille, who visited the PNH Operations Center this morning, gave an interview to Le Nouvelliste in the late afternoon regarding the operation. According to the Prime Minister, this operation will continue as the goal is to strengthen the security forces' hold in these crime-ridden areas. "This operation involved the PNH, FADH, and the MSS. There will be more. The plan is to reclaim house by house, neighborhood by neighborhood, and city by city. We are focusing on each house first because we are facing an urban guerrilla war," he explained.
