On Thursday, September 12, 2024, 24 Jamaican soldiers and police officers, along with 2 Belizean soldiers, arrived in Port-au-Prince. These troops joined the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM), which so far has been primarily composed of 400 Kenyan police officers. The Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH), Rameau Normil, and the MSSM Commander, Godfrey Otunge, welcomed this first contingent from CARICOM at Toussaint Louverture International Airport.
In his remarks, Godfrey Otunge expressed his appreciation for the arrival of these officers, stating, "Their presence will enhance the synergy of our ongoing joint operations between the PNH and the MSS, aimed at ensuring that Haitians can enjoy security in their country. Since we began targeted operations, we have seen successes that should not go unnoticed. I am pleased that the advance team from CARICOM is now here, and we will undertake additional security operations as they bring a special force with them."
