The Government Commissioner at the Court of First Instance in Port-au-Prince, Lionel Constant Bourgoin, has submitted a request to Dean Bernard Sainvil to appoint an investigating judge to conduct a judicial inquiry following the release of a report from the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC). The report calls for legal action against Louis Gérald Gilles, Emmanuel Vertilaire, and Smith Augustin on charges of passive corruption, as reported by Le Nouvelliste from credible sources on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
"The dean's office has received the requisition to investigate, which is a non-public document. It is now up to the dean to assign a judge," one source revealed. "It will be the responsibility of the judge, once appointed and based on the suspected involvement of these individuals in a corruption pact, to determine whether or not to indict them during the preliminary investigation. For now, we await a thorough investigation to ascertain whether there is sufficient evidence to bring these individuals before a trial court," added a source close to the Court of First Instance in Port-au-Prince.
