The government’s vision is to transform the Haitian Armed Forces (FADH) into a true institution, a genuine army, especially given the weak response of national security forces to gang violence in recent years. According to the Defense Minister, it is essential to redefine certain security and defense partnerships with regional countries to achieve better results.

After meeting with officials from the OAS Department of Hemispheric Security the previous day, Minister Jean-Marc Berthier Antoine was welcomed on Tuesday, October 22, at the House of Soldiers by JID President Carlos Alvarez and other institution officials. Once again, the minister outlined the government’s ambitions and vision for strengthening national security forces, particularly the FADH. He stressed that relying solely on the police is insufficient to restore order and is counting on JID’s support to modernize the FADH. “Rebuilding a national military force that is modern and capable is no longer just a choice but a vital necessity for the survival and stability of our country,” he said in a speech later delivered to the JID Council of Delegates, composed of key partners for Haiti.
