A heartbreaking scene unfolded in Port-au-Prince on Thursday, November 14. Hundreds of families were forced to flee the neighborhoods of Solino, Delmas 30, Nazon, and Christ-Roi, seeking refuge from the terror inflicted by the criminal coalition "Viv Ansanm" (Living Together). Along Nazon Road, parents, elderly individuals, youth, and children were seen fleeing for their lives, desperate to escape the violence. Some carried bags, others a few clothes, identity documents, kitchen utensils, bedding, small pieces of furniture, cherished keepsakes, and basic necessities to survive.
After over a year of resistance, Solino has finally fallen to gang control. The death of Jeff Petit-Dieu, a dedicated SWAT officer who fought tirelessly to defend his neighborhood, marked a turning point. According to a local resident speaking to Le Nouvelliste, hope evaporated for those clinging to life in the area. The small group of police officers who had stood alongside Jeff are now demoralized and disbanded, the resident added.
