President Emmanuel Macron briefly commented on the situation in Haiti while in Chile. Addressed by a compatriot, the French head of state pointedly remarked that Haitians themselves bear responsibility for the challenges facing their country. He specifically cited the Transitional Presidential Council's (CPT) decision to dismiss Prime Minister Garry Conille amid a standoff over corruption allegations involving three presidential advisers.
"Frankly, it’s the Haitians who have destroyed Haiti. By allowing drug trafficking… And now look at what they’ve done: the Prime Minister (Garry Conille) was excellent—I defended him—and they got rid of him. It’s terrible! I can’t replace him. They’re completely foolish. They never should have removed him. The Prime Minister was outstanding," Emmanuel Macron criticized, in an unfiltered and spontaneous reaction.
