"Due to serious threats against its staff by members of the Haitian National Police, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is compelled to suspend its activities in Port-au-Prince until further notice. On November 11, an MSF ambulance was attacked, resulting in the deaths of at least two patients, and a medical staff member was assaulted. In the week that followed, police repeatedly stopped MSF vehicles and directly threatened the staff, including death and rape threats. These recurring incidents forced the organization to halt all patient admissions and transfers to its five medical facilities in the Haitian capital starting on November 20, as they represent a direct targeting of MSF staff and patients in Haiti," MSF explained in its statement, which came as a shock to a population with limited healthcare options.

On Thursday, November 21, 2024, the first day of a brief lull after the bloody events of Tuesday, November 19, several patients arrived at MSF's Turgeau hospital only to learn, in despair, about the suspension.
