Unable to take actions that could help restore security in the country, the Presidential Council and the Prime Minister’s Office seem limited to making minor decisions that have little impact on the everyday lives of citizens. Without detailing its composition, the government announced that during the Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, December 18, a National Security Council (CNS) was established. Its purpose is to address the various dimensions of the security crisis plaguing the country and to meet the requirements of the April 3, 2024, Political Agreement for a Peaceful and Orderly Transition.

In a press release, the Prime Minister’s Office also announced the imposition of a state of emergency across the national territory for one month, from December 22, 2024, to January 21, 2025, aimed at facilitating the various interventions by security forces to combat insecurity and address the country's agricultural and food crises.
