While fuel shortages in the past were often due to delays in placing orders or disputes between oil importers and the Haitian government, in recent years, armed gangs have repeatedly disrupted the delivery of petroleum products to service stations.

According to the ANAPROSS president, the petroleum sector did not experience a true shortage this year. The main issue lies in the transportation of fuel to various distribution points. “Transporting fuel from the terminal to service stations, whether in the metropolitan area or provincial cities, is a real logistical nightmare. Gangs have set up multiple toll checkpoints on the roads, significantly increasing the cost of fuel distribution for oil companies,” Deriphonse explained, noting that the cost of fuel is much higher in provincial cities compared to the metropolitan area. Distributors are forced to adjust pump prices to offset delivery costs.
