150 military police officers from the Guatemalan Army arrived in Haiti on January 3 and 4. These soldiers joined the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM), led by Kenya. Despite being authorized by the UN Security Council, this multinational mission is struggling to fulfill its mandate of restoring security in Haiti.

In a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter), the Guatemalan Army detailed the mission awaiting its contingent of 150 officers, including 19 women. “This military police unit will contribute to the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti, led by Kenya, by carrying out the following tasks: maintaining discipline, law, and order within military units; ensuring the physical security of military installations; and managing and regulating the movement of headquarters units, among others,” the statement read.
