The Public Treasury allocated a budget of 500 million gourdes for repair work in the city of Jacmel in preparation for the visit of Colombian President Gustavo Petro. This announcement was made by Minister of Finance Alfred Métellus during a press conference titled “Les mardis de la nation” (Tuesdays of the Nation), held at the Collins Hotel in Jacmel on Tuesday, January 21.

“A great deal of work has been completed. The airport runway has been extended from 500 to 1,000 meters. This airport can now accommodate international flights with planes suitable for the runway length. A military flight from Colombia was able to land in Jacmel. The town hall has been renovated, tourist sites repaired, and electricity restored. A sanitation campaign has been launched, creating jobs. Repair work has also begun on certain roadways. In total, a budget of 500 million gourdes has been allocated for these efforts, with the largest expenditure directed towards the airport runway improvements,” detailed Métellus.
