Several gang members were killed on Friday, January 31, during an operation by the Haitian National Police (PNH) in Kenscoff. Deputy police spokesperson Lionel Lazarre confirmed the news in an interview with Le Nouvelliste on Friday evening. "Two rifles and a bag of ammunition were seized during a police operation in the Bongard and Laratte areas. Several gang members were killed," stated Lionel Lazarre.

Since the beginning of the week, armed gangs have been attempting to take control of the commune of Kenscoff. Fatalities and material damages have been reported in the area, according to the town’s mayor, Massillon Jean. Since then, the police have been working to regain control of the situation. Lionel Lazarre told Le Nouvelliste that the PNH has maintained its security presence in the area. According to him, specialized units remain on-site, and an inspector general has been appointed by Director General Rameau Normil to lead the operations. The newspaper has also learned that a contingent of soldiers from the Armed Forces of Haiti (FADH) has been deployed in the area.
