The Haitian capital experienced a slow and uncertain Monday, February 3, 2025. Most schools remained closed, public transportation operated at a reduced pace, and formal business activities were sluggish. Traffic was unusually light on near-empty streets.
This situation unfolded amid escalating threats from criminal groups in Port-au-Prince. On Saturday, February 1, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Patrick Pélissier, instructed the acting Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH), Rameau Normil, to mobilize all available resources and take necessary measures in response to intelligence reports of threats to public security and potential destabilization of national life.
