U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a conversation with Kenyan President William Ruto. The discussions focused on the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), for which the United States remains, by far, the leading financial and logistical partner. "Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Kenyan President Ruto to thank him for Kenya’s leadership regarding the MSS, which remains fully operational, as well as for Kenya’s role in promoting peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo," reads a post on the USA en français X account.
This conversation between the two officials comes less than twenty-four hours after the United States reiterated its support for the mission, despite having ordered the freeze of its contribution to the UN trust fund.
