Haitians holding a Brazilian humanitarian visa, whether they are in Haiti, the United States, or elsewhere, can travel to Brazil without difficulty. Haitians who have been naturalized as Brazilians can as well. This was stated on Friday, March 28, by Brazil's ambassador to Port-au-Prince, Luis Fernando de Carvalho, in an interview with Le Nouvelliste. As pressure mounts on Haitians benefiting from the Biden program in the United States, those who previously lived in Brazil and hold a valid Brazilian humanitarian visa can return to the largest country in Latin America.
“For those living in the United States, they must have a valid humanitarian visa to return to Brazil. Otherwise, the application must be made in Haiti. This visa will only be granted in Haiti. It is intended for people living here in Haiti. The number is limited, certainly, but there are no specific qualifications required for beneficiaries,” explained the diplomat, emphasizing that in 2024, around 10,000 humanitarian visas have been issued. "We are working in coordination with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), whose offices are in Tabarre, for the delivery of humanitarian visas."
