Faced with the constant threat posed by criminal groups in the city, the management of the Mirebalais University Hospital has proceeded with the evacuation of around fifty patients and staff members. The patients are being transferred to other nearby health centers. In an interview with Le Nouvelliste, Dr. Réginald Ternier, director of the clinical program at the NGO Zanmi Lasante, which manages HUM, explained that this measure became necessary as the best way to continue providing care to patients safely.
“We had to carry out an evacuation during the day on Wednesday, April 2. This measure is in the interest of both the patients and the staff. Providing care to patients is a comprehensive effort. All conditions must be in place. Otherwise, we could end up doing more harm than good if everything is not in order,” said Dr. Ternier.
