This Friday, April 25, 2025, marks the first anniversary of the Council’s governance. Composed of representatives from the country’s main political parties, civil society organizations, and business sectors, the CPT—backed by the international community—was established to succeed where Ariel Henry and his allies from the December 21 Accord had failed. Hence the signing of the April 3 Agreement.
The political organizations and coalitions Fanmi Lavalas, Pitit Dessalines, EDE-RED-Compromis, the Collective of January 30 Parties, the Montana Accord, the December 21 Accord, business associations, REN, and the Civil Society Group agreed to jointly lead the country. They respectively designated the following to the CPT: Leslie Voltaire, Emmanuel Vertilaire, Smith Augustin, Edgard Leblanc Fils, Fritz Alphonse Jean, Louis Gérald Gilles, Laurent St-Cyr, Frinel Joseph, and Régine Abraham. If they were unable to “govern or manage the country,” as the late Bar Association President Monferrier Dorval might have said, they did manage to orchestrate an almost perfect sharing of ministerial posts, general directorates of public administration, diplomatic missions, every imaginable privilege—and even beyond that.
