The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, along with former presidents Leonel Fernández, Hipólito Mejía, and Danilo Medina, jointly sent letters to the leaders of the member states of the UN Security Council. The purpose of these letters is to request support for Secretary-General António Guterres’ proposal to transform the MMAS into a hybrid mission with logistical and operational leadership by the United Nations. These letters follow an institutional dialogue between the current president Abinader and the former Dominican presidents.

“Given the importance of the situation in Haiti for our country, you will note that this letter is signed by the current Dominican president and three former presidents, in an exercise of consensus that reflects, above all, the supreme interest of the nation,” reads a copy of the letter addressed to Donald Trump, the President of the United States.
