The Péligre hydroelectric power plant experienced another forced shutdown on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. This suspension was ordered by residents of Mirebalais who are once again protesting against the control of criminal groups over their city and the inaction of the authorities.
Pierre Michel Félix, president of the Federation of EDH Workers’ Unions (FESTREDH), shared the information with Le Nouvelliste. “Several dozen protesters stormed the power plant around 4 p.m. on Tuesday. They demanded that employees stop electricity production. The workers complied, fearing for their lives and seeking to protect the equipment,” said Mr. Félix.
