On the sidelines of his participation in the 80th UN General Assembly, the president of the Transitional Presidential Council, Laurent Saint Cyr, held two bilateral meetings on Tuesday, September 23. He met with the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, and the president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Ilan Goldfajn. The restoration of security and economic recovery were at the center of the discussions.

According to a statement from the presidency, Mr. Saint Cyr and Mr. Carney discussed the urgent need to restore security in Haiti with a view to organizing elections. “Canada reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting the Haitian National Police and the strengthening of justice, as well as to support advocacy aimed at mobilizing the international community around the establishment of a robust force intended to neutralize the criminal groups holding the country hostage and hindering the restoration of republican order,” the statement read.
