The U.S. government has imposed visa restrictions on Fritz Alphonse Jean, a member of Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council, the Associated Press reported on November 25. The United States accuses Mr. Jean of supporting gangs and other criminal organizations classified as terrorist by the U.S.
The United States also accuses Jean of obstructing Haiti’s fight against “terrorist gangs.” The gangs control 90% of the Haitian capital as well as vast areas in the Artibonite and Centre departments, where they extort businesses and engage in territorial clashes using military-grade weapons.
