The principal mayor of Milot, Wesner Joseph, was taken into custody by the Haitian National Police as part of the investigation into the tragedy that occurred at the Citadelle Henri, which left 25 dead and around thirty injured on Saturday, April 11, 2026. The information was confirmed by the government commissioner at the Court of First Instance of Cap-Haïtien, Eno Zéphyrin, during an appearance on Magik9 on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
Zéphyrin specified that Mr. Joseph, as well as the departmental head of the Institute for the Safeguarding of National Heritage, were taken into custody in his presence. However, he revealed that he learned, on Monday evening, that an officer from the Departmental Judicial Police Service of the North (SDPJ/Nord) had released the latter without informing his superiors.
