He could have given up everything. In 2006, Patrice Millet, then a successful entrepreneur, was diagnosed with bone cancer. He left Haiti to receive treatment abroad. But as soon as he recovered, he returned home—not to resume his business activities, but to coach. “I have always wanted football to be accessible to everyone,” he said during his appearance on Radio Magik 9’s Panel Magik program on Monday, June 15, 2026. This return marked a radical turning point: the former businessman turned his back on the corporate world and devoted himself entirely to the children of Port-au-Prince’s disadvantaged neighborhoods.
Born and raised in Cité Soleil, Millet says he received his first football lessons from a former goalkeeper in his neighborhood. “He taught me the basics, the first fundamentals of football,” he recalls. According to him, it is this symbolic debt that shaped his calling as a coach and mentor. “I believe everyone should contribute in the area where they can help.”
