While a recent Le Nouvelliste article questioned the apparent lack of action by the MTPTC-MdE-SNGRS trio in the face of the accumulation of waste in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, the Director General of the National Solid Waste Management Service (SNGRS) has provided some answers. In an interview with the newspaper, Daril Baltazar gave an overview of the actions carried out as part of the “Konbit Haïti Zéro Déchet” project, the renewal of the institution’s equipment fleet and the situation at the Truitier landfill, among other issues.

According to Daril Baltazar, the “Konbit Haïti Zéro Déchet” project has already produced concrete results in the metropolitan area. “The first results of Konbit Haïti Zéro Déchet are already visible. In the metropolitan area, 55 illegal dumping sites have been eliminated or cleaned up, notably in Delmas, Route de Frères, Morne Lazare, Saint-Louis de Gonzague, Fragneau-Ville and Gérald Bataille. The program mobilized 61 community teams and more than 600 citizens,” he told the newspaper.
