On a mission in Haiti for the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), former Minister of National Education and Vocational Training Nesmy Manigat believes that “in Haiti, we cannot choose between responding to the crisis and preparing for the future.” “Schools must do both: protect children today and build the country of tomorrow. That is why we must invest better in education and move from funding of around 1% of GDP to at least 4%. Because investing in schools today means investing in peace, resilience and Haiti’s future,” said Nesmy Manigat, who met with the country’s main education sector stakeholders.
“I am in Haiti as part of my mission as High-Level Envoy and Education Adviser for the Global Partnership for Education (GPE). This mission first has a very concrete objective: to listen, engage with the Haitian authorities and partners, and see how we can better support national education priorities,” Mr. Manigat said. “We are mobilizing partner countries around a high-level event entitled ‘Multiply Possibilities: A New Era for Education Financing,’ which we are organizing during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly with the governments of Italy and Nigeria,” the former minister said.
