'We are observing a recovery in container traffic after several years of contraction. It is important, however, to distinguish this upward trend from a complete return to the record level of 2021,' said Jean Evens Charles, the Director General of the National Port Authority (APN), in an interview with Nouvelliste on Monday, October 26, 2026.
'APN's statistical data show a contrasting evolution of national container traffic over the past few years. After reaching a peak of 137,350 TEU in 2021 [The TEU acronym stands for Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit in English (which translates to EVP or Équivalent Vingt Pieds in French)], traffic saw a significant decline, dropping to 76,841 TEU in 2024, reflecting a contraction of approximately 44% over three years,' he indicated.
