"From the perspective of building a rule of law, what we are currently experiencing is worse than during the Duvalier dictatorship," denounced the political scientist Joseph Harold Pierre. According to him, we are living in anarchy where there is a complete absence of principles, power, and norms. "The situation is extremely grave even in terms of human rights. No one is free to move about. Gangs choose their prey at will," he lamented.
"The criminals not only defy the authorities in place; they ridicule them," exclaimed the politician before comparing the 'zenglendo' of the dictatorship era with the lawless bandits who kill, rape, kidnap, and operate with impunity today. "The 'zenglendo' operated at night out of fear. During the dictatorship, crimes were traceable, there was order. Nowadays, there is no possibility of tracing certain criminal acts. The situation is deteriorating," Mr. Pierre recalled before criticizing national actors who exacerbate chaos instead of steering the ship in the right direction.
