According to the IOM, these migrants had spent several months, or even years, living outside Haiti. They now face significant challenges in reintegrating into their communities. "The security and socio-economic conditions in Haiti make this reintegration even more difficult. As a result, many people, even after being forced back to Haiti, attempt irregular migration routes again, sometimes multiple times, in search of a better life abroad," the report stated.
The Dominican Republic led the list of countries involved in the deportation of Haitians in 2023, with 208,169 migrants deported, accounting for 96% of the total. This was followed by Turks and Caicos with 3,338; the Bahamas with 2,021; the United States with 1,862; Cuba with 751; Turkey with 463; and Jamaica with 73.
